FAIRBANKS — A final tally of ballots in the borough mayor’s race happens today.

Assemblyman Luke Hopkins leads Assemblywoman Tammy Wilson by 617 votes with a few thousand ballots outstanding.

Hopkins, a five-year veteran on the assembly, holds the statistical advantage. Wilson, who was elected to the assembly last year, needs two-thirds of the uncounted ballots — early votes along with absentee and questioned ballots — to pull ahead.
