Alaska Coordinated Campaign Director

The Alaska Democratic Party seeks a Coordinated Campaign Director for the 2012 election cycle. Key responsibilities: The Coordinated Campaign Director will assist and support Democratic candidates for the Alaska State Legislature and Congress who have joined the Coordinated Campaign. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience managing statewide, state legislative or local campaigns in Alaska; have experience using Votebuilder; understand and have experience executing campaign fundamentals including writing a campaign plan, developing message, targeting, voter contact, budgeting, fundraising, direct mail, paid media, social media, managing vendors, working with the press, and APOC/FEC compliance and reporting. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, will be able to motivate and work successfully with internal and external groups and individuals, and will be fluent in using standard office computer programs and the Internet. Reporting: the position reports to the ADP Executive Director and to an advisory board of Coordinated Campaign participants. Dates of project: Mid-April through mid-November, 2012. Compensation: DOE Position based in: Anchorage, Alaska, with some travel to other Alaska communities.

The Alaska Democratic Party is collecting resumes from individuals interested in working as campaign managers for state legislative and congressional campaigns this year. The ADP will forward resumes received to Democratic candidates who are looking for campaign staff. Hiring will be done by the individual campaigns and not by the ADP.

The Alaska Democratic Party is looking for individuals and firms with graphic design, web design, and media production experience to assist campaigns for the Alaska State Legislature and Congress. Submit brief summary of services and contact information to Kay Brown, ADP Executive Director, at kbrown@akdems.org. Services will be purchased by the individual campaigns.

Intern Positions

The Alaska Democratic Party seeks four interns to work with the party this summer.

ADP’s intern program is designed to provide 1) a practical introduction to working in the political arena, 2) the opportunity to gain entry-level experience in an office environment, 3) exposure to current issues and candidates, 4) an opportunity to develop skills and contacts needed to pursue careers in public affairs and public service, and 5) assistance to the party in carrying out mission-critical projects.

Qualifications: A commitment to the goals and ideals of the Democratic Party is a prerequisite. The ideal candidate will be well organized, responsible, have good oral and written communication skills, and be able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment. Computer literacy required; graphic design skills a plus.

Responsibilities: Interns will work at least 4 hours a day, 3 days a week. Hours are flexible and can be tailored to the student's schedule. Transportation is not provided to the work site. By arrangement with a school, academic credit may be available.

All interns will perform general office duties, including answering phones, assisting the public, working with volunteers, and data entry.

In addition, interns will be assigned to a specific area:

Organizing – work with the Executive Director to assist local Party organizations, elected officials, candidates and constituencies of the Party to help elect Democrats. Work will include planning and expediting events and many other campaign-related activities.

Communications – work with the Communications Director to get the Democratic message out to the public through the news media, internet, blast email, direct mail, radio, TV, phones, forums, and other means, as well as doing issue research.

Technology/Computers – under supervision of the Technology Director, update and maintain the voter database; assist campaigns and volunteers in using the database; create graphics and other computer-generated materials to communicate message and assist ADP staff.
